This workshop aimed to introduce, through both expository and practical methods, the principles of sound as sculptural material, including its production, capture, analysis, and recomposition. Through a brief historical overview complemented by key references, we explored the technical evolution of sound usage and its respective mediators across various functional and artistic dimensions. The session culminated in practical exercises focused on listening, capturing, and analyzing sound.
We elaborated on the concept of composition with sound, sculpting sonic matter to create short sound pieces for diffusion, site-specific installations, or sound performances. We thus aim to provide participants with a broad set of tools for the creative manipulation of sonic matter in diverse contexts.
